Open-Box Discount Benchmarks: What Counts as a Good Deal?
A discount percentage is useful only in context. A 30% markdown may be compelling for a rarely discounted premium brand, while a 50% markdown can still be mediocre if the reference price is inflated or the condition is poor.
Start with the reference price
Compare the reference price with the price you would realistically pay for the same item new today. DealMapped shows the supplied reference price and the discounted price side by side, but the current merchant market still matters.
Think in discount bands
Thirty percent off is our minimum threshold, not an automatic buy signal. Forty to fifty percent is where condition trade-offs become easier to justify; very deep discounts deserve extra scrutiny for missing accessories, unusual variants or stale reference prices.
Use live inventory as the benchmark
The most useful comparison is often the other current listings in the same brand or category. DealMapped’s brand pages calculate live average and best discounts so a single offer can be judged against the inventory around it.
