How to Read Reference Prices and Deal Percentages
Percentage-off labels compress two numbers into one persuasive signal. That is convenient, but the signal is only as good as the reference price underneath it.
The math is simple; the benchmark is not
DealMapped’s displayed discount comes from the difference between the supplied reference price and the current listing price. The arithmetic can be correct while the economic comparison is still weak if the item commonly sells below the reference price.
Sanity-check the current market
Before purchasing, compare the exact model and variant against current new pricing. Color, size, generation and bundle contents can materially change value even when titles look nearly identical.
Why we show both prices
Displaying the current price next to the reference price makes the underlying comparison inspectable. We would rather expose the inputs than ask shoppers to trust a generic “great deal” score.
